CPCS – Construction Plant Competence Scheme

CPCS is the most recognised ‘card scheme’ for the plant industry and aims to keep a record of those working in the construction industry who have achieved a recognised level of ability and competence. The scheme acts as a ‘passport’ to work in the industry and ensures that Health and Safety standards are adhered to.

Training Categories offered:

  • A06 – Truck Mounted Boom Concrete Pump
  • A44 – Trailer Mounted Concrete Pump

*Before any training or tests can take place a candidate must first pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. Information on taking the test is available at www.citb.co.uk This website is also a useful point of reference for operators as you progress through your career.

Trained Operator Card

A (Red) trained operator card is valid for two years and is the card for operators first entering the CITB scheme.

  • Training and testing designed for those first entering the profession
  • Delivered by a fully accredited and experienced instructor
  • Course includes Classroom theory, practical training, oral theory tests and practical on-site assessment

Competent Operator Card

Upgrading from a (Red) ‘Trained Operator’ card to a (Blue) ‘Competent Operator’ card requires the operator to complete a relevant NVQ. A ‘blue’ card is valid for five years.

If you are seeking to renew your blue card you must first pass the CITB’s Health, Safety and Environmental test within the last two years of the renewal application being submitted. You must then complete the CPCS ‘renewal test (theory based) in the chosen category. Finally you will need to demonstrate your ongoing practical experience by completing either:

  • CPCS practical test
  • On-site assessment
  • Proof you've completed at least 300 hours as an operator – signed and acknowledged in your logbook

*This must be signed off by a CPCS accredited validator.
